💡 The essentials
- A French brand does not mean French milk: some “made in France” wheys use milk from the EU or outside the EU. Always read the “milk origin” line.
- Our number 1: Nutripure Whey Isolate Native, French milk, 86.8 g of protein per 100 g, a single lecithin as additive and no sweetener.
- Cheapest per kilo of protein: YAM Nutrition in its large size, with French milk but sucralose.
- The most natural: Protéalpes, with no additive or sweetener and milk from Rhône-Alpes pastures, but less protein.
Search for “French whey” and you land on a dozen brands all showing a blue, white and red flag. But between a whey made in France and a whey made from French milk, there is a real difference. We compared the labels of the French wheys we have already reviewed one by one, to tell you which one to pick depending on what matters to you: purity, price or origin.
🔬 Our method
This ranking builds on our detailed brand-by-brand reviews, themselves based on the official product pages (ingredients, nutrition facts, milk origin) and on prices noted on the brands’ French websites, in euros, between 3 and 9 October 2026. The main criterion is the price per kilo of protein, not the price of the tub. We do not run lab tests and we do not taste the products.
🇫🇷 French whey: French brand or French milk?
Three situations hide behind the word “French”, and they are not equal:
- A French brand: the company is in France, but the milk can come from elsewhere. This is the case of Eafit, whose Pure Whey label states milk from the EU and outside the EU.
- A whey made in France: the powder is packed or blended in France, with no guarantee on the milk.
- A whey made from French milk: the only claim that says where the raw material comes from. This is the one we used for this ranking.
Watch out for flavoured versions too: at Nutripure, for example, the unflavoured version uses French milk, while the flavoured versions blend French and European milk. And a brand with an American name can be European: BioTechUSA is Hungarian, with milk from the Netherlands.
🏆 Our ranking of French wheys

| Whey | Milk origin | Protein per 100 g | Sweetener | Price per kilo of protein |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Nutripure Whey Isolate Native (unflavoured) | France | 86.8 g | None | around €55 to €69 |
| 2. YAM Nutrition Whey Isolate | France | 82 to 84 g | Sucralose | around €53 to €61 |
| 3. Protéalpes no added sugar | Rhône-Alpes | 74 g | None | around €54 to €72 |
| 4. Eric Favre Iso Zero | France (per the product page) | 85 g | Sucralose, acesulfame K | around €67 |
1. Nutripure Whey Isolate Native: the purest

This is the French whey that ticks the most boxes: a native whey made from fresh French milk, 86.8 g of protein per 100 g as sold (94% on a dry basis), under 0.2% lactose, and a single sunflower lecithin as additive in the unflavoured version. The price per kilo of protein ranges from around €69 in 750 g to €55 in 4 kg. Its only drawback: a narrower choice of flavours than indulgent brands. To compare it with other isolates, read our ranking of the best whey isolate.
2. YAM Nutrition Whey Isolate: the cheapest in large size

YAM Nutrition uses French cooperative milk, cold-microfiltered from sweet whey. Its isolate shows 82 to 84 g of protein per 100 g depending on the flavour, and its 3.6 kg size brings a kilo of protein to around €53 to €54, the lowest in this ranking. On the other hand, it is sweetened with sucralose and it is not a native whey. Our full review: YAM Nutrition review.
3. Protéalpes no added sugar: the most natural

Protéalpes is the only brand in this ranking with no additive and no sweetener at all, with milk from Rhône-Alpes pastures. The flip side: only 74 g of protein per 100 g, and under 5% lactose, which makes it less suitable if you digest lactose poorly. A kilo of protein ranges from around €72 in 750 g to €54 in a 4.5 kg pack. Our full review: Protéalpes review.
4. Eric Favre Iso Zero: the easiest to find

Eric Favre is the most widely sold French brand, in stores and online. Its Iso Zero shows 85 g of protein per 100 g and French milk according to the product page, but it is a blend of isolate and concentrate, with several additives and two sweeteners (sucralose and acesulfame K). Expect around €67 per kilo of protein in 1.5 kg. Our full review: Eric Favre whey review.
🔎 The other French wheys we looked at
- AM Nutrition PURE Whey Isolate: 91 g of protein per 100 g in the neutral version, no additive or sweetener, made in France, but the milk origin is not stated explicitly. Around €67 per kilo of protein. Read our AM Nutrition review.
- Raptor Nutrition Whey Isolate Native 94%: 100% French milk, 83 g of protein per 100 g in chocolate, sweetened with stevia, around €80 per kilo of protein in 750 g, and listed as temporarily out of stock on 9 October 2026.
- InShape Nutrition Whey Protein: made in France, 72 g of protein per 100 g, whey type not specified. Read our InShape Nutrition review.
- Eafit Pure Whey: a French brand sold in pharmacies and supermarkets, but with milk from the EU and outside the EU. Read our Eafit review.
📌 Good to know
A whey made from French milk is not necessarily richer in protein than a European whey: the origin tells you where the milk comes from, not how it is filtered. For protein quality, look first at the content per 100 g and the process (native or cheese whey), then at the origin.
✅ How to spot a truly French whey
- The words “French milk” or “origin France” on the product page, not just “made in France”.
- The same claim for every flavour: flavoured versions sometimes change origin.
- Protein per 100 g as sold, not only “on a dry basis”.
- The ingredient list: the shorter it is, the purer the whey.
- The price per kilo of protein: divide the price by the weight, then by the protein content.
To go further on the process, read our guide to native whey protein, and to compare every brand, not only French ones, our comparison of the best whey protein brands.
🎯 Which one to choose for your profile?
- You want the purest: Nutripure Whey Isolate Native, unflavoured.
- You want the lowest price per kilo of protein: YAM Nutrition in 3.6 kg, if sucralose does not bother you.
- You refuse any additive and any sweetener: Protéalpes no added sugar, or Nutripure unflavoured.
- You want to buy it in a store: Eric Favre.
- You digest lactose poorly: avoid concentrates and take an isolate (Nutripure states under 0.2%).
🏁 Our verdict
The best French whey, for us, remains Nutripure Whey Isolate Native: French milk, the best protein content in this ranking, no sweetener and a price per kilo of protein among the lowest in large sizes. YAM and Protéalpes are excellent alternatives if you favour price or zero additives.
⚠️ Warning
Whey complements your diet, it does not replace a meal. If you have a milk protein allergy, are pregnant or have kidney disease, ask your doctor before taking it.
❓ Frequently asked questions
What is the best French whey protein?
Nutripure Whey Isolate Native, for its French milk, its 86.8 g of protein per 100 g and its sweetener-free recipe. YAM Nutrition is the cheapest per kilo of protein in large size.
Which protein brands are French?
There are several: Nutripure, YAM Nutrition, Protéalpes, Eric Favre, AM Nutrition, Raptor, InShape and Eafit. Not all of them use French milk: check the milk origin on the product page.
What is whey called in French?
“Protéine de lactosérum”, or “petit-lait”: the liquid part of milk left after cheesemaking, or filtered straight from milk for a native whey.
Is a French whey better?
Not automatically: a French origin guarantees the traceability of the milk, not the protein content or the purity of the recipe. Always compare the label.
