πŸ’‘ The essentials

  • BioTechUSA is a Hungarian manufacturer founded in 1999, which makes its own supplements in its factories near Budapest and sells them in more than 100 countries.
  • Its flagship whey, Iso Whey Zero, shows 84 g of protein per 100 g (chocolate), with milk from the Netherlands, but also added L-glutamine, sucralose and a “creamy blend” with sugar and coconut fat.
  • Customers are mostly happy: 4.2 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 1,425 reviews, with much-liked flavours.
  • Our view: a serious, indulgent brand, but expensive per kilo of protein in small tubs, and far from a short recipe. For a pure isolate, Nutripure Whey Isolate Native remains our top pick.

BioTechUSA is the brand with the black and blue tubs you see on Amazon, at resellers and in franchise stores all over Europe. But behind the “Zero” marketing, what is its whey really worth? We read the full labels of its three best-selling wheys, noted the prices on its French store and summarised the most-watched YouTube review on the subject.

πŸ”¬ Our method

This review is based on the official product pages of shop.biotechusa.fr (ingredients, nutrition facts, prices in euros), on information published by the BioTechUSA group and by the Hungarian investment promotion agency, and on Trustpilot, all checked on 9 October 2026. We do not run lab tests and we do not taste the products: we compare labels and prices per kilo of protein, with the same grid we use for every brand on the site.

🏭 Who is behind BioTechUSA?

Despite its name, BioTechUSA has nothing American about it: it is a Hungarian company, founded in 1999. The group has its head office in Budapest and makes its products in its own factories in Szada and SzentlΕ‘rinckΓ‘ta, on the outskirts of the capital. It claims a catalogue of around 2,000 products and distribution in more than 100 countries, through its online store, franchise stores and resellers such as Fitadium.

So it is a real manufacturer, not a brand that outsources. The group announced record sales in 2025, around 258 million euros. To see how the brand compares with others, read our comparison of the best whey protein brands.

πŸ₯› BioTechUSA wheys under the microscope

BioTechUSA’s protein range has around twenty products, from Whey Shake at €38.90 per kilo to flavoured isolates in limited editions. We kept the three wheys that come up most often in searches and reviews.

Iso Whey Zero, the brand’s star

CriterionIso Whey Zero (chocolate)
Protein per 100 g84 g (21 g per 25 g scoop)
Sugars per 100 g1.0 g
Lactose per 100 g0.80 g (“reduced lactose”, not zero)
BaseWhey isolate 85%, milk from the Netherlands
AdditionsL-glutamine 5.5%, creamy blend, thickeners, sucralose
Price€69.90 for 908 g, €104.90 for 1,816 g

On paper, Iso Whey Zero is high in protein, and the milk comes from cows grazing in the Netherlands according to the brand. But the recipe is long: added L-glutamine, a “creamy blend” made of partially hydrogenated coconut fat, glucose syrup and sugar, gums, an anti-caking agent and sucralose. The added L-glutamine also counts in the 84 g of protein, because the label calculates protein from total nitrogen: the share supplied by the whey itself is therefore a little lower.

“Zero” means no added sugar on the marketing side, yet the recipe does contain a little sugar and glucose syrup in its creamy blend, for 1 g of sugars per 100 g in total. To understand what really sets an isolate apart, read whey isolate vs whey concentrate.

Iso Whey Zero Natural, the sweetener-free version

This is the brand’s cleanest whey: a native whey isolate (made from fresh milk, micro- and ultra-filtered at low temperature), natural flavourings and nothing else, with no sweetener or colouring. In coconut, it shows 80 g of protein per 100 g, with a little coconut extract and maltodextrin. The downside: it costs €69.90 for 908 g, around €96 per kilo of protein, the highest price in our selection. For the difference between native and isolate, read native whey vs whey isolate.

100% Pure Whey, the indulgent best seller

BioTechUSA 100% Pure Whey chocolate 900 g pouch lying flat on a wooden table
100% Pure Whey in its 900 g pouch, chocolate flavour.

Despite its name, 100% Pure Whey is not an isolate: it is a blend of whey concentrate and isolate (84% of the chocolate recipe), with L-glutamine, L-arginine, BCAAs, bromelain, a thickener and sucralose. It shows 73 g of protein and 6.5 g of fat per 100 g, which makes it a classic whey. Its strong point is the choice of flavours, from apple pie to chocolate peanut butter. At €49.90 for 900 g, a kilo of protein costs around €76. For buyers’ favourite flavours, read our ranking of the best BioTechUSA Iso Whey Zero flavour.

πŸ“Œ Good to know

Whey Shake (€38.90 per kilo) is the brand’s cheapest whey, but it is a blend of whey concentrate and milk protein at 70 g of protein per 100 g, with two sweeteners (acesulfame K and cyclamates) and a caramel colouring. It does not play in the same league as an isolate.

πŸŽ₯ What the reference YouTube review says

The most-watched independent French review of Iso Whey Zero comes from the Sharefitness channel (over 38,000 views, published in 2016). Here is what it highlights, and what has changed since:

  • A highly concentrated, ultra-filtered protein, low in fat and carbs, gluten-free and aspartame-free: the strengths it lists.
  • A lack of precision on the type of protein: at the time, the origin of the whey was not detailed. Today, the product page states milk from the Netherlands and low-temperature microfiltration.
  • Added amino acids without exact doses: the current label now gives the full profile in milligrams per scoop.
  • “Zero” does not mean zero: no added sugar, and a totally lactose-free whey does not exist. The current label confirms 0.80 g of lactose per 100 g.
  • The suspicion of “amino spiking” (inflating protein with glycine) is raised but not proven. On today’s label, glycine stays low (348 mg per chocolate scoop); it is mostly the added L-glutamine that weighs in the total.
  • Very good mixability: a little foam, no lumps, a nice smell, best mixed with water.

Our reading: the video was right about the vagueness of the time, and the brand has since become more transparent on its label. You can watch it on YouTube (Sharefitness, in French).

πŸ’¬ What customers say

BioTechUSA scores 4.2 out of 5 on Trustpilot, from 1,425 reviews, 69% of them five stars (checked on 9 October 2026). The brand replied to 82% of negative reviews. Among the reviews featured on the page, one customer describes a whey isolate that is “really easy to mix: no lumps”.

🏷️ BioTechUSA discount code: what really exists

We found no valid public discount code on the official store on 9 October 2026. What does exist on the French store: free delivery from €80, a loyalty programme and a newsletter sign-up. Be wary of code sites promising undated discounts: we only relay offers read on the brand’s own site.

On purity and price per kilo of protein, Nutripure comes out ahead: more protein from the whey itself, a single lecithin as additive, no sweetener and French milk, for a lower price per kilo of protein. BioTechUSA wins on taste and choice: dozens of flavours, a creamy texture and a presence in stores. To see how Nutripure ranks against the others, read our ranking of the best whey isolate.

βœ… Who is it for? ❌ Who is it not for?

  • For you if you want an indulgent whey, with lots of flavours, easy to find in stores.
  • For you if you buy the large 1,816 g tub, which brings Iso Whey Zero to a fair price.
  • Not for you if you want a short recipe with no sweetener or added sugar (except the Natural version, which is expensive).
  • Not for you if you want a whey made from French milk: pick one from our guide to the best French whey protein instead.

🏁 Our verdict on BioTechUSA

BioTechUSA is a serious manufacturer, transparent on its labels and very strong on taste. Its wheys remain indulgent products, with long recipes and a high price per kilo of protein in small sizes. If you are after purity and the best protein-to-price ratio above all, Nutripure Whey Isolate Native remains our top pick.

⚠️ Warning

Whey complements your diet, it does not replace a meal. If you have a milk protein allergy, are pregnant or have kidney disease, ask your doctor before taking it.
