💡 The essentials

Foodspring has shut down: the brand stopped selling its whey on 30 June 2025. Its three flagship flavours were Vanilla, Chocolate and Cookies & Cream, and each one now has a direct equivalent elsewhere.

  • You loved the Cookies & Cream: Cookies & Cream from the Gold Standard (Optimum Nutrition) or Nutrimuscle’s Choco cookie.
  • You loved the Chocolate or the Vanilla: both classics exist at every major brand.
  • You still find a tub on resale: check the best-before date before you buy.

If you are looking for the best Foodspring whey flavour, there is some bad news to get out of the way first. The Berlin brand, majority owned by Mars since 2019, announced in March 2025 that the company was closing, citing “challenging market conditions”, with all customer activity ending on 30 June 2025. In October 2026, the foodspring.fr site no longer responds and the brand’s Trustpilot page no longer accepts reviews.

So this article still has two uses: telling you which Foodspring flavours ranked best, and above all finding a replacement for the one you used to drink, with equivalents that are still on sale and that we checked on the brands’ own sites.

🔬 Our method

We tasted nothing: everything here comes from public pages we opened ourselves. For Foodspring we used the last archived version of the Whey Protein product page (February 2025, via the Wayback Machine): flavours, label, rating and customer reviews. For the replacements, in October 2026 we recorded the flavours, the compositions, the protein per serving and the prices on the official Nutrimuscle and Optimum Nutrition sites.

🥛 The Foodspring whey flavours before the shutdown

In February 2025, four months before the end, Foodspring Whey Protein came in ten flavours, in this order on the official product page:

  • Vanilla
  • Chocolate
  • Cookies & Cream
  • Neutral
  • Strawberry
  • Coconut
  • Blueberry cheesecake
  • Banana
  • Coffee
  • Chocolate and coconut

Several older flavours had already gone by that point, such as Caramel, Hazelnut, Pistachio, Mango and Chocolate peanut butter, which you will still see quoted on blogs and on retailers’ listings.

On the label, the Vanilla version contained 72% whey protein concentrate and 23% whey protein isolate, sweetened with stevia and sucralose, for 23 g of protein and 0.9 g of sugars per 30 g serving. The 750 g tub (25 servings) was listed at €34.99 before any promotion.

🏆 The best Foodspring whey flavours according to the published reviews

The Whey Protein showed 4.57/5 from 5,684 reviews, 76% of them rated “perfect”, but Foodspring never published a rating per flavour. Our ranking therefore rests on the place the brand gave each flavour and on what buyers said about them in the reviews that are still readable.

1. Cookies & Cream, the signature flavour. Third in the brand’s own selector behind the two classics, it is the flavour one buyer picks as her favourite in the French-language reviews visible on the archived page: “cookie&cream mon préféré” (“cookie & cream, my favourite”), wrote Clara in June 2024, who also rates the Chocolate and the Vanilla as “top”.

2. Chocolate, improved by the 2024 recipe. Foodspring had reformulated its whey for a “smoother and creamier” texture. Several reviews rated 5/5 praise the result on the chocolate, including one from Paulin in April 2024: “un vrai goût de cacao” (“a real cocoa taste”).

3. Vanilla, the safest bet of the three. It was the first flavour offered on the product page, and the published reviews describe it as natural and not too sweet, even if one buyer who avoids sugar still found it on the sweet side.

⚠️ Watch out

The 2024 recipe also split the regulars. On Trustpilot, two reviews from August 2024 rated 1/5 criticise the new formula for tasting “too sweet” and call the change “really negative”. If you remember the old version precisely, no tub still in circulation will give it back to you.

🔄 What should you replace your Foodspring flavour with?

For every Foodspring flavour there is, as of October 2026, at least one equivalent by name at Optimum Nutrition or Nutrimuscle. The taste will never be identical from one brand to another, but you are starting from the same flavour family:

To separate the two replacement brands, here is our grid, built from their official product pages. Optimum Nutrition wins on choice of flavours, Nutrimuscle on price per kilo and on the formula:

🎯 Our verdict: what should you drink instead of Foodspring?

If you used to drink Foodspring Cookies & Cream, the Gold Standard Cookies & Cream is the most direct replacement, with the same flavour name and the same concentrate-plus-isolate blend principle. If your priority is the price per kilo or a sucralose-free option, we would lean towards Nutrimuscle, whose flavours we go through in our ranking of the Nutrimuscle flavours. Gold Standard fans will find theirs in the ranking of the Gold Standard flavours.

These replacements will not suit everyone. If you liked Foodspring for its unusual flavours (Coffee, Coconut, Blueberry cheesecake), neither brand offers them. And if you avoid acesulfame K, read the Gold Standard label closely: the Double Rich Chocolate version contains it, along with sucralose. In that case go for a whey sweetened with stevia or a plain whey instead.

Finally, if you are switching brand anyway, Nutripure is the number one in our comparison of the best whey protein brands:

✅ How to pick your new flavour without getting it wrong

  1. Start from the flavour family you used to drink at Foodspring (chocolate, vanilla, biscuit, fruit) using the table above.
  2. Compare the label: protein per serving, sweeteners, the share of concentrate and of isolate. Our guide to which whey protein to choose goes through those criteria.
  3. Read the reviews that name your flavour, not just the overall rating on the page, which blends every flavour together.
  4. Start small: a 450 to 500 g size is enough to validate a flavour before you commit to the big tub.

❓ Frequently asked questions

Does Foodspring still exist?

No, the company ended all customer activity on 30 June 2025. Mars, its majority shareholder since 2019, cited challenging market conditions. In October 2026, the foodspring.fr site no longer responds.

What was the best Foodspring whey flavour?

The Cookies & Cream, followed by the Chocolate and the Vanilla. Foodspring never published a rating per flavour, but those are the three the brand pushed on its product page and the three named as favourites in the customer reviews it published.

Can you still buy Foodspring whey?

Only leftover stock at retailers, with no guarantee of a restock. If you do find some, check the best-before date printed on the tub and be wary of prices that look abnormally high for a discontinued product.

Which whey is closest to Foodspring whey?

A whey concentrate boosted with isolate, which is what the Foodspring was (72% concentrate, 23% isolate in Vanilla). Optimum Nutrition’s Gold Standard follows the same blend principle, with more flavours. To understand what a whey actually contains, read our article on whey protein composition.
