💡 The essentials
The best place to buy whey protein in Saint-Étienne is rue Bergson: FitnessBoutique (no. 129) and Bergson Nutrition (no. 104) are almost next door to each other, with advice on hand and tastings advertised at FitnessBoutique.
- While you are out shopping: BioTechUSA at Centre Deux, Decathlon at the Steel shopping centre.
- Outside the city: Decathlon Villars, plus Bergson Nutrition at Firminy and Andrézieux-Bouthéon.
- For the best price per kilo: ordering online usually still wins.
Saint-Étienne has something most French cities do not: a local sports nutrition chain, Bergson Nutrition, with three shops across the Loire département, on top of the national names. We checked every address in October 2026 before keeping it in this guide.
📍 Rue Bergson: two specialist shops side by side
FitnessBoutique Saint-Étienne
FitnessBoutique, 129 rue Bergson, 42000 Saint-Étienne (04 77 74 98 15). Open Monday to Friday 10:00 to 13:00 and 14:30 to 19:00, and Saturday 10:00 to 19:00 with no lunchtime break.
The shop is run by a former coach and advertises product tastings and one-to-one advice on whey, creatine and pre-workouts. Its page shows 4.89/5 from 211 customer reviews (checked in October 2026).
Bergson Nutrition Saint-Étienne
104 rue Bergson, 42000 Saint-Étienne (06 09 81 23 86). This is the Saint-Étienne branch of the local chain Bergson Nutrition, which combines supplements, personal training and an online shop with in-store collection. The company behind it is active on the French companies register. Its opening hours are not published on its site, so ring before you go.
With two multi-brand shops a few doors apart, rue Bergson lets you compare brands and prices on a single trip, instead of driving from one retail park to the next.
🏬 In the shopping centres: Centre Deux and Steel
BioTechUSA Centre Deux
BioTechUSA Centre Deux, 1-7 rue des Docteurs Charcot, 42100 Saint-Étienne (04 77 46 79 16), inside the Centre Deux shopping centre. Open Monday to Saturday 9:30 to 19:30, with the brand’s full range: proteins, vitamins, clothing and accessories. One brand only, then, but staff on hand every day according to the official listing.
Decathlon Saint-Étienne Monthieu
Decathlon Saint-Étienne Monthieu, centre commercial Steel, 2 rue Ferrer, 42000 Saint-Étienne (04 87 00 00 60). Open Monday to Saturday 9:30 to 19:30, this is the branch Decathlon lists for protein in Saint-Étienne. Bear in mind that it will be closed on 1 November and 25 December 2026, both public holidays in France.
What you will mainly find there is the chain’s own whey, at an entry-level price. To work out whether it is worth it, read our Decathlon whey protein review.
🚗 Around Saint-Étienne: Villars, Firminy, Andrézieux-Bouthéon
- Decathlon Saint-Étienne Villars: rue de Chabannes, ZAC de Montravel, 42390 Villars (04 77 93 00 21), open 9:00 to 19:30.
- Bergson Nutrition Firminy: 1 rue des Noyers, 42700 Firminy, the same chain as the rue Bergson shop.
- Bergson Nutrition Andrézieux-Bouthéon: 508 avenue Hélène Boucher, 42160 Andrézieux-Bouthéon.
If you live in the Ondaine valley or out on the Forez plain, these addresses save you a trip into the city centre. As with the rue Bergson shop, check Bergson Nutrition’s hours by phone, because they are not published online.
💶 Price, choice, advice: our Saint-Étienne scorecard
| Type of purchase | Price | Choice | Advice | Speed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Multi-brand shops (FitnessBoutique, Bergson Nutrition) | ★★☆☆☆ | ★★★★☆ | ★★★★★ | ★★★★★ |
| BioTechUSA Centre Deux | ★★☆☆☆ | ★☆☆☆☆ | ★★★☆☆ | ★★★★★ |

🔬 Our method
We checked every address in October 2026 against the shop’s own official page (FitnessBoutique, BioTechUSA, Decathlon), against the Bergson Nutrition website and against the French national companies register. XTREME NUTRITION (9 avenue Denfert-Rochereau), which appeared in the earlier version of this guide, has been removed: no listing and no active company at that address confirms it is still open. The stars rest on the services and terms the retailers publish, not on a visit.
Our view: start on rue Bergson, where you can compare two multi-brand shops and taste a few at FitnessBoutique before committing. Once you have found your flavour, rebuy it in a big bag online. If all you want is the lowest price, the specialist shops are not for you: Decathlon or an online order will cost you less.

📦 Click and collect and delivery across the Loire
Decathlon offers free in-store collection in as little as 1 h when the product is in stock at Steel or at Villars, and pickup point delivery from 72 working hours, for €0.99 or free from €49.90 of purchases. Bergson Nutrition also lets you collect online orders in its shops.
With the brands that sell online only, the shipping costs vary: Nutrimuscle, for instance, gives free home delivery from €100 of purchases, and offers Chrono pickup points and post offices too, all shipped from within the EU. Our page on where to buy whey protein compares the main online shops.
🥛 Buying your first whey protein properly
In the shop, ask for the protein content per 100 g and the price per kilo, not just the price of the tub. To go further, our guide on how to choose whey protein runs through the criteria, and whey isolate vs whey concentrate explains the difference between the two main families.
Whey protein is still a supplement: according to the ISSN position stand, 1.4 to 2 g of protein per kg per day, food included, covers the needs of most active people. If you have kidney disease, are pregnant or are allergic to milk protein, ask a doctor before taking any.
